Getting Started
-
Do I need a brand-new website for this to work?
Not at all. I specialize in making your existing website faster, cleaner, and easier to manage. Rebuilding from scratch is usually a last resort.
-
Can you work on a site someone else built?
Yes—and I do it all the time. Whether your site was built five months ago or five years ago, I’ll help you get it working for your goals again.
-
What platforms do you work with?
Mostly WordPress, especially sites that were set up and then left alone. I also work with older platforms and sites with unique setups—let’s talk about what you’ve got.
Process & Communication
How long does a typical project take?
Most optimization projects take 1–2 weeks. Larger or more complex sites might take longer, but I always give a realistic time estimate up front.
Do I have to wait until it’s finished to see results?
Not at all. You’ll usually see noticeable improvements—like faster load times or better usability—early in the process as I work through key fixes.
Do you need full access to my site?
I’ll need admin access to your WordPress dashboard, and sometimes access to your hosting account depending on what we’re fixing. I’ll walk you through it if it feels overwhelming.
How do you balance freelancing with your full-time job?
I block out focused time for freelance work in the evenings and weekends. It’s part of how I stay sharp and enjoy solving problems outside of my day job.
Do you ever miss deadlines?
Very rarely. I build in margin for unexpected delays and always communicate early if something shifts. You won’t be left guessing where your project stands.
What’s Included
-
What’s in a typical website optimization project?
Each project is tailored to your site’s needs, but usually includes:
– Speed and performance improvements
– Mobile responsiveness fixes
– SEO basics (titles, structure, readability)
– Plugin cleanup and audits
– Broken links and formatting fixes
– Navigation improvements and user experience cleanup -
Do you offer ongoing maintenance?
Yes, I offer monthly or quarterly maintenance options that keep your site running smoothly, prevent issues, and reduce the need for major fixes down the road.
-
What’s involved in regular maintenance?
– Safe updates for WordPress core, themes, and plugins
– Regular backups and security checks
– Monitoring for broken links, speed, and other performance issues
– A brief, plain-English report summarizing what was done and why -
Why would I want maintenance instead of a one-time fix?
If your site supports an active business or content strategy, maintenance is the best way to keep things reliable without constant hands-on effort. It prevents “surprise” issues and helps avoid expensive fixes later.
-
Do you think businesses should manage their own sites?
Absolutely. I’m a big advocate for having someone internal who can handle basic updates. I’m happy to train that person and set you up with tools that make it easier. It’s often faster, cheaper, and more empowering than relying on an agency.
About Me & My Approach
What’s your background?
I’ve been working on websites since the Geocities days—really. Over the years I’ve built and managed everything from church and nonprofit sites to e-commerce stores and corporate portals. I currently work full-time in customer support for a major B to B food service and water filtration company, focusing on portals and site access, but freelancing keeps my skills fresh and open to new ideas
Why do you freelance if you have a full-time job?
Because I enjoy it. Freelancing helps me keep my skills sharp, explore new tools and ideas. It’s where I learn the most and have the most creative freedom.
Do you use AI tools?
Yes, but in the right way. I use AI for brainstorming, outlining, or speeding up repetitive tasks—never to replace real thinking or my unique voice. All final content and site decisions come from me, not a chatbot.
What makes your approach different?
I don’t push you into a giant package you don’t need. I look for the small, high-impact improvements first—the things that make your site faster, clearer, and easier to manage. I explain things without jargon you don’t understand, and I believe in building something with you, not just for you.
