Yesterday, I found myself reflecting on how I am giving in life—in all its facets: to those I love, my workplace, professional networks, freelancing, and my community.
Of course, we often focus on how our skills and time are compensated, whether through a salary or other forms of mutual exchange. And rightfully so. But are we also giving simply to lift others up, give back, or show appreciation?
I’ve been thinking about how I can consciously incorporate this spirit of giving into my daily habits. Some ideas I’m exploring include:
- Sharing tips to help others succeed.
- Teaching or mentoring someone.
- Finding small ways to assist my coworkers.
- Supporting causes that align with the work I do.
Giving doesn’t always have to be transactional—it can be about creating connections, building trust, and adding value to others’ lives.
What are some ways you give without expecting traditional compensation in return?
